About Us

Missing Link Education has been supplying books to provincials and municipal libraries for the past 26 years. Our aim is to provide quality resources together with excellent service and good value for money. Missing Link Education is the distributor of African Sunshine Phonics, a groundbreaking phonics series launching in South Africa developed by Dame Wendy Pye, a renowned leader in literacy publishing. This series aims to provide early learning materials for achieving literacy success.

African Sunshine Phonics focuses on structured literature and phonics to help children learn to read in English from a young age. The series features engaging stories about a family, friends, and pets, ensuring that all children can read and enjoy them. The illustrations serve as positive role models, fostering self-esteem and learning success.

To support teaching, the series includes sound cards, comprehensive teacher notes, and student activity books that reinforce and expand on the learned skills. Additionally, professional development videos demonstrate effective classroom instruction using the blackboard as the primary resource, making it accessible to all teachers.

For Dame Wendy, this series holds special significance as she has been helping children learn to read in South Africa for over 30 years. Her previous successes, such as the Sunshine Classics series and establishing schools with Rally to Read, have positively impacted countless children.

During a professional development workshop, the team experienced the joy of a child exclaiming, “Look, this book features us!” This small beginning reflects the series’ aim to create a meaningful connection for children, not only through illustrations but also through the activities involved.

Message From The Publisher

I am delighted and excited to present through our partnership with Missing Link Education this wonderful new phonics decodable series for South Africa.
I have worked extensively in schools all over South Africa for the past 30-plus years. Our large list of Sunshine readers and resources is published in many African languages and I know that this series will give valuable support to all children learning to read in English.

This new series offers the following special features:

  • Real stories using words that students can read
  • Stories with a focus on an extended family, and their pets and friends
  • Illustrations that focus on the life and experiences of many children in South Africa
  • Teaching of phonics skills in a sequential and systematic way
  • A student activity book for practice in writing and further learning experiences.

This is a great series with Stage 1 available later in 2023, and Stages 2 and 3 in 2024.
I do hope you enjoy what we have published to support all children in South Africa.

Kind regards,

Dame Wendy Pye
